I finished one of my mushroom quilts.
The pillow turned out a little wonky. For some reason I thought rounded corners would work out better. Bummer. ...but I liked the pieced mushrooms so much - I couldn't just scrap it. Even as it is, I had to take out a ton of the fluff to make it this normal.
James claimed the extra fluff. He has big plans for a Shaun the Sheep costume.
....at least the zipper turned out ok.
I'm mush happier with the quilt itself. It's made from the more primary colors of my "Hoot" charm pack, with some mushroom fabric from Joanns, and a border from Sandi Henderson (that I got on clearance forever ago - stashbusting!) It's the first thing I've hand-quilted in a while. So hard. ...but my MIL gave my some tips that made it much easier....but still so much work.
Every time a friend has a baby, I want to give them something handmade. It just rarely works out. Something about being busy and only finishing my projects many months later...
This one was timed a little better. When she had the baby, I was nearly finished (two months ago).
....or maybe it has to do with the fact that she calls me a genius every time I sew anything. (Flattery. It gets you handmade gifts...so use it sparingly.)
Regardless, this quilt is on it's way to baby Jude. Hope he likes it and spits up on it frequently. (As that is how babies show their approval.)
Oh Lia it is beautiful!! I'm sure it'll be a family treasure for years to come. As usual I love your colors and of course the mushroom theme is just darling....I love the pillow! You make me want to go sew! Your so sweet and kind to make such (hard) and thoughtful presents for people. My little quilt stays on my bed always and makes me think of you everyday. I love you!
ReplyDeleteyour mushroom pillow may not have turned out the way you envisioned it but it is definitely cute!
ReplyDeleteGood job on the quilt! Hand made gifts take time and a worthy recipient will understand that they are worth the wait. So James wants to be Shaun the Sheep for Halloween. I hope that doesn't mean black face.
ReplyDeleteSew Cute,Lia! And she's right, you ARE A GENIUS (that's right, I'm yelling it from over here so you can hear it ;) I wore my sweet apron to Activity Day camp on Friday, just to hear all of the compliments... Genius!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I feel the same way about my well-intentioned projects as gifts. James wants a Shaun the Sheep costume? You guys just keep getting cooler and cooler when I don't think it's possible to get any more cool! I know, grammar nightmare but for some reason I have to leave it that way! I love your mushroom pillow too, even if it isn't what you hoped for. Those pieced mushrooms are AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteDearest Lia,
ReplyDeleteTwo weeks ago, we found out that Jude had a heart murmur. He also wasn't growing. Our doctor talked to the pediatric cardiologist who suggested we take Jude to the ER. We did and he was admitted to the children's hospital where he underwent lots of tests. His official diagnoses are VSD (a hole in his heart), failure to thrive, hypotonia and Down Syndrome. We were in the hospital for a week. When we came home, I was so overwhelmed with everything. I had a really hard week. Then I got your gift. It is such a wonderful, beautiful, genius, perfect gift. It made me feel happy. Jude loves it, too! :) Your timing was perfect, as was the gift. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I don't know how to tell you how much it meant to me.
Just so you know, though, we are doing better. We are finding a new rhythm. Jude has already been such a blessing to our family and I know he will continue to be. We are lucky to have him!
Thank you again!
