It's a long-term plan (hatched after I saw this cute rug), so don't get your hopes up about seeing anything more exciting than balls of tarn for quite some time.
Sew Liberated said she got her instructions out of Handmade Home. If so, she is a super-intutive crafter. I was all, "huh?...but how?" Instead, I got an old school rug-braiding book from the library. Written by a grandma who knows people need diagrams and massive amounts of pictures.
And I'm not ambitious. I'm going to make a little rug for my laundry room and one to put in front of my kitchen sink.
Tony = totally unsupportive of my new endeavor.
Tony: Is that my shirt you're cutting up?
Me: You mean this 8-year-old Flag shirt that I paid $2 for 8 years ago? (I know it's eight years old, because it says 2003 on it.)
Tony: I still wear that.
Me: hmmm. (All the more reason - said in a quiet aside) Well, it's the exact color I need for my rug, so....
I should have come up with a better cover story. Tarnal fool husband.
Hahaha! We are big fans of the "tarnal fool" business, too! And "great thunderation!" I told Christian that you called them tarnal fool rugs and he replied with, "Time flies!" We love that Ralph Moody and his grumpy gramps! Oh, and your rug idea, too! :)
ReplyDeleteI have thought about a braided rug, too. Although, I probably won't go the tshirt route. It sounds like it was a pain for her to make! But it turned out SO pretty. Mine will probably be a Old Jeans and Khakis rug. If and when I ever get around to it, of course.
ReplyDeletewe'd like a review on the camera, please. :)
ReplyDeleteoh, that is beautiful Lia! I love making rugs and yes they are kinda hard. I would have loved to have had Grandma Robinsons rugs she had in her house. Made during the war out of mens suits. I would never have thought of using t shirts it'll wear great and such pretty colors. I've crocheted a couple rugs. Have fun with that and I love your new word its as good as lunas (oh, barnacals).love you
ReplyDeleteI would forget about making the tarnal rugs and just artfully display the balls of tarn!
ReplyDeleteI drooled over the rainbow rug first time I saw it! I'd love to make one. We don't seem to wear enough bright-colored tees around here, though. Maybe I'll keep bright tees in mind when garage sale season starts up again. :) Can't wait to see pictures of your rug--when you do finally finish it!
ReplyDeleteThat rug *is* really cute, but not a task I'd take on. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteJessica: My son thought you should have said, "Wastin!" instead. :)
ReplyDeleteJessica: Also, my 13-yr-old found the first few chapters of this book so frustrating that he tried to get us to quit reading it. I think he could relate a little too well. :)
ReplyDeleteMore power to you! When I saw her rug I thought it was beautiful but I would NEVER take on the project myself! I'll probably say the same when you post pictures of your finished project.
