Easy Peasy Valence

So....I had this beautiful vintage dishtowel that I may or may not have stolen from my sister-in-law. LOVE the colors! They were the basis for my kitchen color scheme...inasmuch that it has one.

I would try so hard to keep it hanging over my oven door handle, but my family just doesn't understand the concept of decorative towels. After catching my daughter using my treasured towel to clean up PAINT, I decided it needed to be taken out of harms way.

I folded over a few inches on top (conveniently covering up the green paint that is still on one corner) and used matching gray thread (this is key, folks!) to sew a pole pocket.

After trying and failing to make a cute gather here, I decided on a few pleats instead. I just made four slightly staggered folds in a row and then sewed up through the middle of them.

....and, in under ten minutes, I saved my vintage dishtowel from almost certain destuction. I think my family would have to be pretty desperate to take this down and use it to clean up their evil, evil spills.

Now, do you think my husband will let me take the hardware  and hinges off of our back door and paint them "satin dark walnut"?

  1. So cute! I wouldn't say you are a thief, though. You just let it be known that you really liked the towel, and I allowed you to keep it, because I am so generous ;) Your kitchen looks adorable with all of the sweet additions you've added to it lately. The buffet turned out fantastic! Don't let the drawers bother you. They don't even matter, because you don't leave drawers open for others to see the unpainted sides (like I do;).

    1. Don't I? ....actually I don't, but that's just because I don't want kids rifling thru the contents of my kitchen drawers....stealing my tools, batteries and craft supplies....and knives...;)

  2. Cute! I'm so glad you "borrowed" it, because it definitely belongs in your kitchen!

  3. Oh, it's not so bad, because our kitchen is in the very back of the house. ...and I keep the back porch light on at night, so I'm pretty sure I'd see them before they saw me.
We do have one creepy neighbor, but he's creepy because we NEVER see him. ...just a light on at night every couple of weeks.

  4. Wow, I love it. Good job on the buffet as well. I worried about drawer sides when I repainted the dresser in the nursery...then I noticed that the drawers were like that before...just in a different color.
