Knitting Hats

Our weekly art lessons (for the homeschooled young'uns) are on winter break, so my friend Amanda and I are filling that empty time slot with sewing lessons - given by us! Yay!
(...and that way they're free! Double yay!)

Last week Amanda taught us how to make hats on knitting looms. I pulled out the looms I've had in my closet for years and years. They are finally being put to good use.

Annika chose a pretty green yard (her favorite color), while Jonathan chose white, so as to blend better with the snow. He has big plans for a very snowy winter.

Amanda's family makes hats every Christmas to donate to a local charity (a pancake house that gives them out when they host Christmas breakfast for the homeless), so we've made a few for that too.

James wasn't overly interested until I started making a couple of hats for the new baby. Then he wanted to help. (I hope they fit.) James is very excited about having a new little brother or sister.
He even picked out names...that I will not be using.

James: If it's a girl, we'll name her Phoebe.
Me: Where did you get Phoebe?
James: The little girl in the Care Bear movie was Phoebe. It's cute.
Me: Hmm.
James: And, if it's a boy, we'll call him Steve.
Me: No. (I once had a boyfriend named Steve..and none of my children will be named after him.)
James: Ok. ...Stephen.

Cozette chose a camouflage yarn that Amanda had. Ever the individual.
Cozy says she's going to use it to hide behind a bush...and then someone will look at the bush and say, "Part of that bush is BEAU-TI-FUL!"

Yes, we are raising a confident little girl.

Thanks for teaching us something new, Amanda!

  1. What wonderful little hats! Personally, I like the name Phoebe. It was a well used family name among the Stoner family so we have number of ancestors who carried that name. I also have a bee store customer named Phoebe and we have a little Phoebe in our Primary at church.

  3. Oddly, I'm not swayed to embrace the name Phoebe by learning that it tightens our connection to a bunch of Stoners.
