We're There!

It's freshly washed and puckery nice! I just love a finished quilt.


...and it's amazing how nice EVERY quilt looks in my living room. Still, I had to deliver it to it's new home.


I only had fleeting thoughts of hiding it in here and...well...hording.

Dolce and the Blehs

I indulgently bought myself a Dolce charm pack and have lately been putting it to good use. I've divided it into two different color groups, for a warm and a cool version of the same quilt.



The cool version....


...and this picture doesn't come close to doing it justice. I was going to do the warm quilt's sashing in orange...but I chickened out. It'll be gray too. ...and I guess they'll be twinnier that way...so I think I've come to terms with it.

Aside from that quilt top, we've mostly been doing this lately:


Being sluggish, eating saltines, watching stupid movies, and hoping no one else throws up on the carpet.

Elise's Quilt

Another little retro quilt with a traditional pattern. I think it turned out swell.


....and it's already in the mail.

Patterny Goodness

I got my fabric from Fresh-Squeezed (of "I have to say..."! It's Joel Dewberry's new "Modern Meadow". I was really excited when I saw this line, because...

Sofia wants a blue quilt. I suggested a nice turquoise blue. She said, "No, I want it like the colors on that sign." The LOWES sign. Great - my quilting dream come true. Royal blue and red. Could she come up with an uglier color scheme? I was thrilled that she was ok with the deep blues in this line.

The browns? We'll see. Wouldn't they make a nice baby boy quilt? Too flowery?


Randi threw in these charm squares! {Thanks!} I immediately cut them up for my 9-patch. You thought I forgot all about that quilt, didn't you?


I purchased this basket of clothes at Clash of the Titans...oh, I mean, while my family was watching Clash of the Titans. The littles made it through the first ten minutes, and then we retreated to Goodwill (before we all got kicked out of the theater).

Can you tell how I do my thrift store shopping? I walk down the eisle, looking for nice prints, preferrably in cotton. I pull it out...and hope it's in a size that fits someone.

Hmmm. This picture makes me want to make basket liners.


I'm almost done with the pillow, but the quilt I have to finish...


It's basted and rolled up in my room.

My On the Road to Spring isn't finished yet either. (I know. It isn't remotely Springy, but that's what the pattern was called.)

It isn't even ironed.


...but I started a matching pillow out of the scraps! I tell ya - A-D-D.

Planning for Beautious Fun

Oh, I'm making all sorts of fun plans for someone's 1st birthday, and even Wal-Mart is cooperating with me, making all sorts of fun woodland things for Easter (which is conveniently scheduled right before said birthday).



It's like they read my mind.

And check out my gorgeous dollar store flowers!


I love having total creative control. If only my other daughters would surrender it, they could have the cutest parties ever too. But, no.

Other things I've been working on...

...using up my last couple of tiny pillow-forms. Looks like it's time to stuff a dozen more.


I've also finished cutting out a gorgeous wedding present. Yes, I know it looks like a big pile of scraps, but it's going to look like the nicest quilt ever. I tried to make it not too girly...in deference to the groom.

They're Sew Cute!

Delivering these....



...and attending the party of the century (I hope my girls aren't developing unrealistic party expectations) were our main excuses for driving down to see the Kangs, but there was some other fun to be had too.

4H fun. I {heart} 4H. Last year the girls all went to two 4H sewing camps (their moms are over-enthusiastic about sewing), run by numerous sweet volunteers. If you want to go this year, call Barbara Gross (360)871-5039 (or e-mail her @ nanagross@msn.com). There's a camp in Silverdale mid-July and one in Port Orchard at the beginning of August. Ages 8-18. Last year it cost $30 - for the whole week! Like I said, we {love} sewing camp!



They're developing new skillz...self-esteem....so much self esteem that they might talk a little smack..."Ha! Your mom doesn't know what a French seam is!"

You win some, you lose some.

This little stuffie started out with such promise.


Then I got a little crazy and tried to give it wings.


The wings look somewhat battish...and one is WAY smaller than the other. I still like it, but I feel a little twinge of sadness whenever I see it. It feels like failure.

On a happier note, I finished my Super Jane Quilt. So happy with it. 39 x 43 Baby-sized.


Sarah, I did the quilting in gray. After your picnic quilt, I really like a gray with brightish pastels. It's just an all-over, loopy pattern.


There was a lot of drama over the binding. I originally thought red (there's just a bit of red in the quilt), but then decided yellow was safer...and it would have been, had there been any un-hideous yellows at Joanns. So, I went out on a limb and got the red.

I don't normally pre-wash any of my quilting fabric. It makes it bunch up and look all vintagey when you wash and dry the finished quilt, but I thought...red fabric...of dubious origins (Jo's)...mixed with my quilt that I love. I would have cried if it bled, so I did prewashed the binding.


Why did I call it Super Jane? The front is from just one Nicey Jane (by Heather Bailey) charm pack ($8.50) and the back is a Moda fabric (I bought on sale for $4) called Sweet Baby Jane. So, it's Janes all around...and it turned out super, if I do say so myself.

Shroomy

Oh, I'm finishing a quilt that has been hanging out in my room for a while. It is o-so-gorgeous. I was thinking about giving it as a special baby gift, but I don't know if I can part with it. My baby is still special, right?


I got some fabric in the mail. I say that as if I had nothing to do with it. They just randomly mail it out, and I got lucky. Wouldn't that be nice....

But no - I ordered it. It might be a little whimsical for some people, but I think it could be highly adorable, watered down with some less pictoral prints. Besides, I have a thing for mushrooms. (Not in an addictive, dangerous, fleeing responsibility kind of way....in an "Oh, aren't they cute!" way.)


Say it. "Oh, aren't they cute!"


And hedgehogs are cute too. Don't deny it.
