Sometimes you have to be spontaneous, but, when you have six children, being spontaneous is a lot of work. Seriously.
Last Monday we got an e-mail update from HSLDA that MONDAY was last day to sign up for Home Education Day at the capitol in Olympia. It was in support of a Christian Homeschool Lobbying group - educational...worthy cause...I mailed in our application so that we could be included in the tour groups.
You could also sign up to bring a homemade pie for a representative. The kids were all in favor of that...with the exception of some mandatory preteen complaining.
Everyone loved working on their own pies, but I think we need 3 more pastry cutters.
James even helped...to make a mess.
The results were more wonderful.
Annika's pie.
Jonathan's pie.
Anthony's pie.
Sofia's bipartisan pie.
The mess. Can I just say, islands are great for baking at.
Bringing our pies to the legislative building.
The actual event under the rotunda was great. There were a lot of interesting speeches - interesting for me - not the kids. They were SO good. We left James with a friend for the day, so that helped.
Eating our lunch on marble steps.
The kids enjoyed the tour a lot (Sofia was scared to death sitting in the balcony of the Senate and the House. She doesn't care for heights.) Altogether, I think the effort became worth it when we were brought into one of the Senate committee hearing rooms. Annika's eyes lit up. She looked at me and smiled, and I knew she was thinking about how bills are made into laws! How sweet!
What a fun day!You have the cutest kids! You are a such a great inspiration on all that you do with them.
ReplyDeleteI love it! What a great experience for you all! I'm so impressed!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great mom!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun experience. The pies look great!
ReplyDeleteYou are such an awesome mom letting your kids bake their own pie. All at onece! The thought of the mess would keep me from doing it. I am such a meanie. One helper in the kitchen at a time is about all I can handle.
ReplyDeleteAnthony looks like he grew 3" from the picture back in January at Manchester State Park.
Jessica: I didn't have time to have them each in the kitchen individually or else I probably would have. We had to make the pies on evil Wednesday, so it had to be fast and furious!
