Farming Fantasy

I've been reading The Complete Guide to Raising Chickens, but all of the chickens I'm likely to get are on this shirt.

It took Boo all day to notice they were chickens and not polka dots. Subtly farmy - it's all the rage.

We have had some farming success. Our mushroom logs finally sprouted something! Edible, right Dad?

The mushroom plugs were my sole purchase from last year's garden show. My Dad cut down an alder on his property, drilled the logs full of holes, and Jonny helped him hammer the plugs in with a mallet. We've been waiting for them ever since....and I was ready to add it to the list of fruitless endeavors. Score one for the growers!

  2. Whoa! I'm going to have to go out and look at our log. PS Your chickens are adorable. The best sort to farm.

  3. I follow your mom's blog and I write one myself about my family's life in Spain. I have a closest love of all things farming...There is something about farming that just appeals to me. Maybe it takes my back to my childhood and summers spent on my great-grandparents farm in Texas. I think I could only handle livestock though. I seem to only be able to care for the living things that scream for their care outloud. So i'm not so good with plants...I used to collect eggs with my grandma and LOVE fresh eggs. I worry about having someone to take care of them though. It is a big commitment to have them, and I travel a lot, so chickens on my shirt may be as close as I get too. ;-)

  4. Love the chicken shirt! Much cleaner than real chickens, I'm sure. (Said by the woman whose chicken coop needs cleaning out right about now...) I'd love to know more about the mushroom logs! That looks really cool. We have all sorts of various fungus in our woods out back (well, when we don't have a foot of snow on the ground anyway) but I have no idea what is edible. Growing known edibles on a log sounds much safer!!
