Physics is Phun!

Last night the kids and I trekked on up to The University of Maryland, to attend "Physics is Phun"! They were so mad I was making them go. I guess they were under the impression that it was a lecture, rather than a series of fascinating demonstrations.

This time the subject was illusion.

The professor did demonstrations of impossible figures, illusions using mirrors, and showed us how our brain "tricks" us as it reconciles conflicting images.

I told the kids they all had to go home and make one of these out of legos...but no one did.

So, how "phun" was it? I brought everyone ages 8 and up...and didn't have to tell anyone to sit still, be quiet, or pay attention. (Though, I admit I had to confiscate Jonny's 3-D glasses at one point.)

Mamalia: See, Sofia, wasn't that fun!?
Sofia: No...but it was intriguing.
