One of the shirts I thought would fit Sofia ended up being ridiculously low-cut. (The perils of not trying things on!) ...so I'm making it over into a dress for Cozy, because I just loved the pleating...and couldn't get rid of it.
(I suspect that the real reason I rehab old clothes may stem from some sort of hording instinct.)
So, to fix this little gem, I cut the collar off of the back of the shirt, and then evened the back up with the front. I haven't taken out any width...because of those cute pleats...but I'll have to try it on Cozy before I'll be sure that will work. I cut the sleeves off and shortened them just a tad.
So, that's it taken apart. I'll have to get back home before I put it back together.
I also cut out 3 pairs of leggings, two pairs of leg warmers, and some scraps to I plan to make into a fabric flower. I've never actually done that before, so it might end up being a pile of scraps that I'm going to throw away. (A girl has to dream.)
My Mother-in-law, Wanda, also likes to sew and took me to a great store - Pennsylvania Fabic Outlet. Not your typical fabric store at all. They did have some quilting fabric, but what really impressed me were the rolls of trims and elastics! Just huge walls of them - at great prices!
I got these crocheted beauties for 20-30 cents a yard!
These lovelies are for a Halloween costume I've been wanting to sew for a couple of years now. Lots of options for Little Red Riding Hood. (Only the velvet was "expensive" - a dollar-seventy.)
...lots of pretty, soft elastics. They're the kind you can put on the outside of things instead of hiding them away in a casing.
What are they for? Well, that's for me to know and you to find out. ...but perhaps you can guess?
those elastic trims look lovely!! (a wee bit jealous? You betcha!) I made a pile of shirts to turn into leggings, but that is about as close as I've gotten!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect day! Wish I could come and visit.
ReplyDeleteActually those elastics look like I shouldn't mention what you might be making them into ;)
